The 8-second flavor story
Write what you do in the time it takes a diner to scroll past — and make them hungry enough to stop.
Customers don't read your about page first. They see a photo, a headline, maybe a caption — for about eight seconds. If they don't get it in those eight seconds, they're gone, and no amount of great food makes up for being unreadable.
The formula
One sentence with three beats:
- The food. What you actually serve — plainly, proudly. "Braised Turkish hünkârbeğendi" beats "modern Mediterranean comfort."
- Why it's special. The one thing you do that the place down the street doesn't. Made in-house, family recipe, fire-kissed, tortillas pressed at 6am.
- The feeling. What a regular says to a friend — not what you'd write in a mission statement. "Tastes like Sunday at your grandmother's."
An example, punched up:
"Hand-pressed tortillas, a salsa that thinks it's a hot sauce, and a line out the door by seven — everything from a kitchen that treats Tuesday like a fiesta."
Do this today
Open the notes app, time yourself for three minutes, and write your version: food, special, feeling. If it reads like a menu's intro paragraph, cut it in half. Keep cutting until it sounds like you'd say it over the counter to a first-timer.
That one sentence becomes your bio, your homepage, your first caption. Say it eight seconds, every time.
